Son of a Gun Diner is Hamilton’s go-to spot for great food, good vibes, and even better company. Founded in 2019, the venue is a family-run diner inspired by North American flavours, serving from early morning through to late night, and offering a lively atmosphere with drinks and entertainment.
On behalf of Son of a Gun Diner, we are seeking an experienced and reliable Cook to join their kitchen team. The Cook will be responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking menu items to a consistent standard, supporting smooth kitchen operations across breakfast/brunch through to dinner service, and maintaining strict food safety, cleanliness, and quality controls in line with venue procedures.
Position Responsibilities and Tasks:
• Prepare, season and cook menu items in accordance with Son of a Gun’s recipes and quality standards. • Assist with menu planning and costing by providing input on ingredients, portion sizes and preparation methods to support consistent quality and waste control. • Complete daily prep, mise en place and service execution across busy periods (breakfast/lunch/dinner and late-night service). • Support kitchen operations by coordinating with the chef to plan daily prep requirements and maintain adequate mise en place for service periods. • Maintain consistency in portioning, presentation and timing during high-volume service. • Support food safety and hygiene compliance (temperature control, storage, allergen awareness, cleaning schedules). • Keep workstations and kitchen equipment clean, safe and organised, and follow WHS requirements. • Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house team to ensure smooth service and a great guest experience.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent), or at least three years of equivalent experience in a commercial kitchen. • At least 1 year of relevant experience as a cook in a café/restaurant/high-volume venue. • Ability to work calmly under pressure and maintain quality and consistency during peak trade. • Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe work practices. • Strong communication, reliability and a team-first attitude.
Salary: This is a full-time position with competitive remuneration between $76,000 to $85,000 p.a. plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
